Model Railroaders Model railroading can be a family hobby or it can be the focused passion of any one person. As a family hobby it is a very enjoyable pastime where parents and children can work together, re-creating miniature worlds that can be based on an existing railroad or one from a bygone era. For the really committed individual working alone it can be a time consuming, often expensive, and often frustrating hobby. The trains used in model railroading are not merely toys. Rather, they are carefully detailed, scaled down models of current real-life locomotives and rolling stock or, more usually, models of those from important railroads in railroad history.
